How important is organic certification?

In the June issue of Growing for Market, we asked organic growers who have chosen not to certify under the federal law to let us know how their businesses have been affected. From the responses we received to our query, it’s obvious that feelings run high on this issue. Most of the people who responded said that a lack of certification had not hurt them. We also heard from several certified growers who are perturbed by what they consider confusion in the marketplace because so many growers are choosing not to be certified.
