CSA farmers report a jump in inquiries after the March 12 issue of Time magazine, which has a cover photo of an apple with a sticker that says “Forget Organic. Eat Local.” The headline says “The best food you can eat may be in your own back yard.” Inside is a long essay by John Cloud about the virtues of eating locally grown food. Highlights include his visit to Google’s cafeteria called Caf? 150 which prepares only food grown within 150 miles of the company’s headquarters in Mountain View, California; and a visit to Windflower Farm in Valley Falls, New York, after he joins their CSA. It’s all online at www.time.com/time/covers/0,16641,20070312,00.html
Take advantage of this free publicity for local farms by making sure potential customers can find you. List your farm on www.localharvest.org and with your state department of agriculture’s marketing department.
