A different kind of home delivery service

Growing For Market

Loaded Bikes is a non-profit organization in Chicago that encourages the use of bicycles and trailers as an alternative to cars. Since 2009, Loaded Bikes has offered a CSA delivery service that starts at $8 a week.

One of the founders, Margot Considine, says: “We provide the link between farms and customers who are unable to pick up their weekly shares themselves, and choose to have the produce boxes delivered to their homes instead. It’s a convenient and sustainable solution, and helps expand access to fresh, healthy food!

Most farms deliver all of their CSA boxes to various pick-up spots, either at their booths at farmers’ markets, or at other sites around the city, and we pick up from those sites and deliver the shares to the members’ houses. We love to connect directly with farms, and many of them spread the word about our service to their members, and then we work directly with those customers so that it’s no extra work for the farms themselves. We also offer compost pick-up, either on a weekly or an as-needed basis, and we’re hoping to expand that service this year as well.”
