When we started raising pastured broilers several years ago, one of the most important tasks we had was to establish pastures for them. This requires thoughtful evaluation, because the choices available can be overwhelming, and the specific forages selected will vary throughout the country, based on a region’s climate and the needs of the individual farm system. Very generally, forages are divided into two groups of species: grasses and legumes.
