Six years ago we were digging potatoes with a spading fork. It seemed like no matter how careful I was and no matter how much I told people not to get too close to the plants we always stuck the fork through the biggest, most beautiful potato in the field. Digging with a fork isn’t too bad, but it takes a while so I started loosening the potatoes with the tractor by pulling the hilling shovels down the center of the potato rows.
