Once, on assignment in South Korea, I was tasked with training some highly educated but novice agricultural consultants in Integrated Pest and Disease Management (IPDM). The challenge they had was convincing their growers to invest in scouting. No grower wanted to scout. It seemed like such a waste of time, even at 1 hour per acre! They would try to delegate it to the occasionally visiting consultants, who were there to analyze the reports and make recommendations. How could we convince the growers to pull themselves away from the myriad of things they have to do (planning, marketing, human resources, crop work, etc.) for this seemingly mundane task?
