veggiesWhen we decided to transition our market farm to a CSA, we wanted to serve many different types of households, including those hesitant about a typical all-or-nothing CSA membership. As a small-acreage, intensively-managed farm, we wanted to find the most efficient way to earn value from the produce we grow, and did not want to retain market sales as an outlet or manage multiple income streams from other side sales of produce. We felt we needed a means of getting not only first-quality produce, but also overproduction and seconds, into the hands of interested CSA members, while also allowing members to opt out of items they just did not want regardless of availability. Thus we developed a weekly online survey using open-source software that allows limited share customization for members. This system has saved us much time and expense by nearly eliminating the need for other sales outlets, while improving the member experience and using produce more efficiently.
