Farms get financing on crowdfunding websites

For 13 years, Dave and Lori Hoyle of Creative Growers Organic Farm have been delivering their certified-organic produce into Portland, Oregon, to restaurants, universities, and a thriving CSA. Their farm in Noti is 130 miles away from those customers, so the couple has been looking for land closer to the city. This year, they found it, 38 acres just 30 miles from downtown. But there was one big problem: they were $30,000 shy of the down payment they needed to be able to get financing for the new farm.
