public speakingFarm planning season, the time for contemplating successes and failures, is here. Farmers are looking for inspiration and fresh ideas, and attending workshops is one of the ways we do that. Perhaps you’ve been asked to provide a talk. Or perhaps you want to “sing for your supper” and speak at a conference in exchange for lodging and registration. Here are some tips based on my experience, mostly since my book Sustainable Market Farming was published in 2013. I remember just how much fear I felt giving my first big presentation at the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group conference in 2009, to 200 people. Nowadays the fear has gone – so, fear need not disqualify you!
