world cropsIn Toronto, as shoppers stroll along the orderly tents of area farmers markets, they may be surprised to see exotic foods such as tomatillos and Indian red carrots among the locally grown squash and mushrooms. They shouldn’t be. These test crops are courtesy of growers working with the World Crops Project, an initiative created by Vineland Research and Innovation Centre, the Stop Community Food Centre and Toronto Public Health. The project demonstrates how agricultural partnerships can pay big dividends to both rural farmers and urban dwellers.
