Pleasant Valley Farm Farmer to Farmer Profile
publication date: Jan 1, 2020
Pleasant Valley Farm (PVF, which is also the acronym for my old farm!!) is well off the beaten path, about an hour north of Albany, NY, and quite near the Vermont border. It’s nestled in some rolling land, with the vegetable patches maximizing any flat land available along a ridgeline. I was pleasantly surprised to find a lovely big house, with gorgeous landscaping all around it, as my destination. Why do I say surprised? Well, my experience overall is that most farmers don’t spend much time on fixing up their houses or especially not on planting and tending flowers and shrubs in the yard. This unusual state of affairs at PVF points to an important tenet of the farm.
The Arnolds strongly believe that a beautiful tidy farm is an important factor leading to farm profitability. So, not only was their house and yard gorgeous and welcoming, but every part of the farm was well cared for, looked pretty darn good, and felt under control. That’s exactly the feeling the Arnolds want for themselves, but especially for their workers: detailed, organized and attractive.
