South Wind Produce Farmer to Farmer Profile
publication date: Jun 1, 2019
From where I live just outside Washington, D.C., I am close to a couple of “happening” small farm states: Pennsylvania and North Carolina. I don’t know exactly how it turned out this way, but NC has an incredibly vibrant market farm scene. There are a number of highly respected elders of the movement still actively farming that have churned out hundreds of farm-trained beginning farmers.
Some of the most successful and oldest farmers markets in the country are in the Triangle region between Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill where there are universities, colleges, and high-tech jobs. Real, hyper-local food abounds. Keeping in mind my original impulse to visit farms featured on Chris Blanchard’s Farmer to Farmer Podcast, I hoped that South Wind Produce would be my next stop. Angie Raines, half of the ownership team of South Wind, agreed right away.
